1. Vertigo and Moon Bar

Location: Banyan Tree Hotel, 21/100 South Sathorn Road, Sathorn
Phone: 02 679 1200

Located in the Banyan Tree Hotel in Sathorn, this 61st floor bar and restaurant is one of the most romantic night spots in Bangkok with price tags to match.

The bar and restaurant occupy the entire top floor of the hotel and their are bars running along both edges of the roof so you can sit and stare out at uninterrupted views of Bangkok city by night.

One floor down there’s a passable Chinese restaurant called Bai Yun which you have to walk past to get up to the bar. The roof top bar is open from 7:00 pm (but people start arriving around 6:00 to get the best seats) until about 1:00 am, but not if it’s raining, and you won’t get in with thongs or a t-shirt!

2. Park Society

Location: Sofitel So Bangkok, 2 North Sathorn Road , Bangrak
Phone: 02 624 0000

Located on the 29th floor terrace of the five-star Sofitel So Hotel in Sathorn, the Park Society bar is nestled in amongst the skyscrapers of downtown Bangkok but you still feel like you’re on top of the world.

The bar only sells tapas (from 1100 Bt) and drinks (from 300 Bt) but there is relaxing live music most nights and it’s a great place to cosy up and watch the sun go down over the city.

If you’re with a group, for an extra 500 Bt each, you can enjoy a private alcove all to yourselves. The bar opens at 7:00 pm and closes at 11:00 pm.

3. Three Sixty Lounge

Location: Millenium Hilton Hotel, 123 Charoennakorn Road, Klongsan
Phone: 02 442 2000

This glass walled roof top bar located on the 31st floor of the five star Millenium Hilton Hotel serves tapas and drinks but don’t expect too much other than amazing views across the Chao Phraya River,  the gorgeous sunsets and just watching the boats going up and down the river.

But if you don’t like being walled in by glass, there’s also another outdoor lounge area with open views across the city that’s often quite empty.

There’s a nice little jazz band that plays in the Three Sixty Lounge most nights and it’s very easy to sit around listening to the music and losing track of both time and your bar tab! Drinks can be a little expensive, running in at around 450 Bt each.

4. The Sky Bar

Location: Lebua at State Tower Hotel, Silom Road, Bangkok (near Saphan Taksin BTS Station)
Phone: 02 624 9555

One of the older and more prestigious roof top bars in Bangkok, the Sky Bar on the 63rd floor of the Lebua at State Tower Hotel, across the river from the 360 Lounge, became famous when it was used as a set in the Hollywood movie Hangover II. As a result it gets pretty crowded.

Get in early and grab a seat in the Distil Lounge where you can enjoy the fantastic views while munching oysters and sipping whisky and avoiding the crowds in the main restaurant and bar areas.

Lots of really nice cocktails available in the Sky Bar including the movie’s own “Hangovertini”, a mix of green tea liquor, apple juice, honey and Martini Rosso.

5. Octave Rooftop Bar

Location: Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit, 2 Sukhumvit Soi 57, Bangkok (near Thong Lor BTS Station)
Phone: 02 797 0000

There’s not a lot of great bars in Sukhumvit so the Octave Rooftop Bar at the five-star Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit is one of the most popular nightspots in the downtown area of Bangkok.

Considerably cheaper than the others above, you can expect to get out of the Octave Rooftop Bar after a few drinks and a snack with a bar bill of about 1000 Bt, but that’s reasonable considering you get arguably the best views in the city. Beers are priced similarly to most bars around Bangkok and you can always eat in the ground floor restaurant before you come up for the view.

Try to get there around 5:30 pm to grab a nice seat to watch the sunset. Later on there’s an English-speaking DJ who plays great music.
