Gateway to Angkor Wat temple complex
Siem Reap is a city in the north-west of Cambodia, on approximately the same latitude as Bangkok in Thailand but further east, and it the gateway to the amazing temple complex of Angkor Wat.
The city of Siem Reap is quite small and very laid back, existing mainly as a base for tourists visiting the ancient Khmer temples of Angkor, once the capital of the Khmer empire from the 9th to the 12th centuries. But we’ll cover Angkor Wat itself in another post.
Here’s a vignette of Siem Reap to hold this spot while we write a full destination guide for this city.
