Luxury on a budget
If you’re looking for a little luxury in Chiang Mai without breaking your travel budget, the 3.5-star Maninarakorn Hotel in Sirdonchai Road is a great place to consider. Located near the Chiang Mai night bazaar, it’s close to all the best action in Chiang Mai but still just a short walk from the Thapae Gate and the beautiful “old town” with it’s moats, walls and great atmospheric bars and cafes.
If you can manage to get a room up on the higher floors of the Maninarakorn Hotel, you’ll find great views of the mountains out to Doi Suithep as well as the city lights of Chiang Mai. The upper rooms are more expensive and many are spacious suite rooms. If you’re looking for the cheaper rooms they are in the side wings of the hotel but are less luxurious and a little tired. So stay in the main hotel if you can.
All the 120 rooms in the Maninarakorn Hotel come with air-conditioning, direct dial telephones, free WiFi internet, TV and a minibar. The common facilities of the hotel include a large swimming pool that seems to be hardly ever used, a jacuzzi or spa that’s great to relax in after a hard day’s walking, a sauna and massage room and a good in-house restaurant with Asian and western food.
Room rates are around USD$70 per night but TripAdvisor often has great discounts for the Maninarakorn Hotel, down to USD$25-30 per night even for the Superior Residence rooms.
